INTRODUCTION
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a new international organization committed to strong, inclusive green growth. We assist developing and emerging countries with integrating their ambitions for strong economic performance and environmental sustainability with the goal of bringing about poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Headquartered in Seoul, GGGI was established by treaty in June 2012 at the United Nations Rio+20 Conference by an initial group of eighteen nations who share the organization's vision. As of 2014, there are total of 22 Member Countries who joined the organization.
GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries' development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Develop a long-term green growth program in Vanuatu and Fiji, and establish GGGI as a trusted advisor to both governments and as a key actor promoting green growth in Pacific Island Countries;
- Lead economic and policy research and analysis and provide expertize on national development planning, sectoral action plans and investment plans, and generating bankable projects;
- Responsible for project management in both countries, including the development of logical frameworks, annual budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, and other core project processes;
- Develop country strategies that are aligned with GGGI's global strategic direction and overall thematic focus;
- Engage and consult with Development Partners as needed and enhance GGGI's resource mobilization effort in both countries in coordination with other GGGI units;
- Organize and manage programs and activities for capacity building and knowledge sharing and documentation, including the transfer of knowledge across the GGGI global portfolio;
- Build and maintain partnerships with officials and stakeholders in the government, development agencies, research institutions, and the private sector;
- Manage a diverse and multi-cultural team, which will include external consultants, and ensure project delivery is on time and to budget;
- Develop an effective work environment in Vanuatu and Fiji to engage the team members and deliver results;
- Maintain strong information and program ties to GGGI's Knowledge Solutions Division and other units at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea;
- Regular travel between Fiji and Vanuatu will be required. Occasional travel to other Pacific island countries and GGGI Headquarters will also be necessary;
- Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of Master's degree, preferably in economics, climate change, development, environment, engineering, business and finance as well as 10 or more years of relevant experience;
- Substantive knowledge in one of the following areas is preferred: energy, green city development, land-use, water, and national development planning;
- Experience working with Small Island Developing States (SIDS), particularly Pacific Island Countries, is required;
- Experience working for an International Organization is preferred and expected to have experience and skills applicable beyond one specific country
- Experience managing relationships with public and private entities including central and local government agencies;
- Successful experience engaging multiple stakeholders in a developing country context, and building consensus around a clear course of action;
- Strong management and organizational skills, and the ability to work as a part of a multi-cultural team;
- Proven entrepreneurial drive, motivation and the ability to creatively find solutions to complex problems;
- A track record of successfully managing a development programme, involving bankable project generation, capacity building and knowledge dissemination activities;
- Ability to communicate complex economic and development issues in a clear and simple way to a diverse audience;
- Strong oral and written English is essential; working knowledge of Fijian, Fijian Hindi, or Bislama would be an advantage
