SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Cuso International is a non-profit international development organization, working to improve the lives of people living with poverty and inequality around the globe. Each year we mobilize hundreds of volunteer professionals who work with local partners to create positive lasting change. Established in 1961, Cuso International is a registered charity in Canada and the United States.

As part of the Cuso International Strategic direction, our ambition is to scale up our impact significantly in order to reach a greater number of people to help reduce global poverty and inequality. The focus of the Program Development and Funding Manager will be to lead the team in increasing program funding by developing partnerships with institutions, private sector (foundations and corporations) and non-governmental organizations.

Under the direction of the Director of Partnerships, this position provides direction to the Program Funding Team and manages key aspects of Cuso International’s program development and partnerships. The position is responsible for:

  1. Leading and managing a highly functioning team of program development and funding staff toward successful achievement of Cuso International’s Strategic Outlook as well as program funding goals; (50%)
  2. Providing leadership and oversight of program development, project management and compliance, monitoring and evaluation, and donor reporting in support projects funded by Canadian donors and partners (25%); and,
  3. Cultivation, maintenance, and expansion of Cuso International’s portfolio of Canadian program partners – including: Donors, Private Sector, Institutional and Non-profit partners – with special emphasis on expanding partnerships with the private sector in Canada and abroad through new and existing programming (25%).

The Program Development and Funding Manager contributes actively as a member of Cuso International’s Management Team.

Essential qualifications are:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience successfully leading institutional, foundation, corporate engagement, revenue generation and development of funding proposals (greater than $500,000) and partnership agreements;
  • A University degree, preferably a master’s degree in a relevant field or an MBA;
  • Bilingualism (French and English);
  • Knowledge of various private funding sources and strategies for international development programs;
  • Experience administering grants, projects and programs; in-depth knowledge of project management principles and practices;
  • Experience engaging the private sector and managing multi-sector/PPP/Shared Value/CSR projects;
  • An understanding and/or strong interest in international development issues and trends in international development funding;
  • Experience and proven track record building, leading and managing teams towards strategic objectives and results, preferably in the field of funding/fundraising;
  • Experience using participatory approaches to team-building, strategic planning and in the implementation of activities and projects;
  • Excellent communication skills: strong oral presentation skills; ability to convey complex information/ messages both in written and oral forms;
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others;
  • Demonstrated initiative, diplomacy and good judgment;
  • Ability to work well with others and engage others in contributing to strategic objectives;
  • Attitudes and behaviours which show respect for different cultures;
  • Ability to learn and utilize technical tools used within the organization;
  • Flexibility and ability to work in an organization that is committed to continuous improvement;
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel within North America and other countries;
  • Experience working and living in a developing country.

Desirable qualifications are:

o Ability to speak and write in Spanish.
