The Director of Health Communications takes a leading role in World Vision's strategic mandate and the Global Communications by becoming an authoritative voice for change, with a global share of voice on key issues relating to child poverty (as defined by the Child Well-Being Aspirations) and has primary responsibility to build the profile and reputation of the organisation, contributing to positioning the organisation as a leading food, health, and Water and Sanitation Health (WASH) NGO globally. The role is accountable for an integrated and shared communications strategy and messaging for brand support and reputation building for Sustainable Health including the three global programmes of food, health (including nutrition), and WASH, leveraging evidence and knowledge management and supporting GAM efforts. Responsibilities include media and social media among other channels. The role is also a strategic driver for the shared understanding and articulation of identity, vision and strategic direction.

The role is responsible for external audience engagement activities aimed at public affairs audiences: policy-makers, key influencers, academia, peer NGOs, consortia, military granting agencies and foundations, donors and supporters. At the same time, will be accountable for ensuring consistency of external strategies, messaging, and planning with the implementation of engagement with internal audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Development of a global strategy and messaging for sustainable health (food, health, and WASH sectors)
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of communicators working on sustainable health (SH) communications through cooperation with peers in the global reputation and public affairs team.
  • Development of resources, events, conferences ,and reports for partnership use at key global moments for health (eg post 2015, WHA, World AIDS Day, World Food Day, Water Day. etc.)
  • Coordination with Global Communications team to ensure maximum lift for Food, Health, and WASH in all channels and coordination of timing and priorities.

REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in political science, international affairs, journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a bachelor's degree with equivalent level of hands-on experience.
  • Understanding of both corporate and communications strategy: ability to develop strategic plans, guide other leaders in
  • developing sub-strategies and outline the resources required to implement them.
  • Understanding of Global Food, Health, and WASH issues, or combination of exposure to some or all of these sectors.
  • Skilled communicator and user of all media channels and technologies.
  • 7+ years in leadership positions in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field at a senior
  • level - good working knowledge of on- and off-line media and social media.
  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.
