Temporary Communications Officer, Public Relations
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Public Relations, the Communications Officer will be responsible for carrying out a full range of communications and public relations activities to help expand awareness and support for UNICEF’s mission, programs and priorities. Primary focus will be on issues and campaign concerning key partners of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
This part-time temporary assignment is to have an expected duration of 6 months with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:?
- Review of fundraising, marketing and communications materials for large fundraising partnerships
- Drafting fundraising and communications materials for USF, including blog posts and web stories, elevator pitches, power-point presentations
- Pitching the work of partners and U.S. Fund’s fundraising campaigns to local media
- Drafting, editing, routing, and distributing communications and press materials
- Developing messaging, talking points, and Q&As for a range of issue areas
- Assisting with the development of communications and media plans
- Conducting research, monitoring media coverage of priority issue areas, and identifying opportunities for pitching stories or placing op-eds and letters to the editor
- Building and updating press lists
- Organizing and maintaining electronic files of UNICEF issue documents, reports, situation reports, key messages, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of work experience in public relations, media relations, communications and/or journalism
- Knowledge of international humanitarian and development issues essential Knowledge of fundraising a plus
- Superior writing skills, excellent verbal communication skills
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals
- Ability to multi-task with ease
- Proficient on Excel and PowerPoint
- Foreign language a plus but not required
