The Drug Access Team:

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) works to broaden access to life-saving therapy for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria patients in the poorest parts of the world. CHAI approaches health access challenges with simultaneous and intensive engagement on both the demand and supply sides of the market.

On the demand side, CHAI’s country teams help governments to scale up treatment programs, improve procurement and supply chain management, and, for malaria, increase access to medicines through private sector distribution mechanisms.

Meanwhile, the Drug Access Team (DAT) work to address supply-side barriers to access and foster a healthy marketplace to ensure the sustainable supply of essential medicines. DAT works closely with buyers, donors, multilateral organizations and manufacturers to lower drug prices, encourage the adoption of stringent quality standards, and accelerate the entry and uptake of new improved products.

Position:

The TB Associate will be a critical contributor to CHAI’s TB initiatives, which aim to ensure sustainable supply and broad access to TB treatment. S/he will provide strategic, analytical, communication, and project management support to implement internal and external projects. The Associate will develop strong relationships with various teams within CHAI, as well as senior management. The position will require travel to meet key stakeholders and country representatives.

This position requires 20-50% travel.

  • Execute components of the strategy for the TB drugs Access program that link the country and market activities - drawing on analysis s/he will conduct of the marketplace including patient and demand forecasting by drug, country, and other relevant subgroups.
  • Collect and disseminate expertise around tendering and supply chain system strengthening
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date expertise on TB regulatory and quality issues, pricing, treatment guidelines, and market intelligence by attending trade shows and other industry events
  • Offering technical assistance for partners’ TB tender design
  • Proposal development and donor reporting
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of information regarding key TB market developments to CHAI country teams and relevant external organizations
  • Identify opportunities and lead new initiatives as the CHAI TB program expands
  • Bachelor’s degree, plus 2-3 years relevant work experience
  • Exceptional analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, and propose and implement new initiatives
  • Ability to think strategically, handle ambiguity, and problem solve in a fast-paced, limited-structure, multicultural environment
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities
  • Ability to absorb and synthesize a broad range of information, especially clinical and scientific information
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Willingness to travel frequently and at short notice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in management consulting, investment banking, or similar fast-paced, output-oriented environments
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device industry
  • Experience with supply chain, manufacturing, and/or procurement functions
  • Experience living or working abroad, particularly in developing countries
  • Familiarity with global health issues
