Amnesty International is shifting its centralized International Secretariat (IS) into a more strong, coherent and visible presence in strategic locations in the global South.
In the Americas, we are developing a stronger presence by opening a regional office in Mexico City and de-concentrating some of the functions we currently base in the International Secretariat office in London, including our research and campaign capacity. Being closer to the ground will enable us to operate with greater speed and relevance and to be more agile and responsible to the demands of our human rights agenda.
Amnesty International's Regional Office is looking for an experienced Senior Campaigner to develop campaigning strategies and responses to some of our most critical campaigning issues. In the Crisis and Tactical Campaigns team, you'll react quickly to emerging priorities assessing changing situations quickly, capitalising on your political judgement and inspiring worldwide action within days.
About the role:
The urgent human rights issues that we need to bring to the world's attention are hugely varied. All of them, however, demand creative campaigns that are well-researched, well-planned and well-managed despite the time pressures that surround them.
Spotting opportunities for action, you'll decide on effective strategies and tactics, always looking to capitalise on political opportunities. You'll also draft, review and advise on campaign strategies and materials and meet daily with our key team to review major issues and developments. At every stage you'll collaborate with key stakeholders, both internal and external, to make sure campaigns are consistent, streamlined, and get results.
About you:
With experience of working on human rights issues, you must have first-hand in-depth knowledge and experience of the socio-political and economic context in the Americas region, and global human rights trends.
Probably working for a charity, NGO, or government body, you'll have already developed national and international campaigns. So you'll know how to harness everything from on-street activism to online digital tools. As a result, you'll have the confidence and expertise to identify relevant information quickly, understand what's key and pinpoint the most effective means of communication. Flexible enough to adapt your approach as priorities change, you'll also bring us a real flair for innovation and a talent for project management particularly important when time pressures are intense. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital too so you can generate motivational campaign materials that connect with a range of target audiences as well as inspire those you work with.
About us:
Amnesty International's aim is simple: for every person to enjoy all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. Independent, impartial, international and influential, we campaign to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated. Already our network of over five million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we're applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we're all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected for everyone, everywhere.
