This position will provide primary backstopping support to 2-3 assigned East Africa member organizations that are implementing programs in multiple heath areas including HIV/AIDs, Reproductive Health, and Malaria and Child Survival. The position is based in Washington DC, reports to Program Manager, and entails approximately 25% overseas travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Program Manager is responsible for supporting PSI's programs in East Africa. Backstopping duties include:
- Financial monitoring of programmatic expenditures, program income and Annual Operating budgets in collaboration with field-based teams and Financial Analysts;
- Monitoring contract compliance and achievement of deliverables, both donor and internal;
- Coordinating between field and DC on technical and cost proposal development, leading and assisting in preparation and review of budgets;
- Reviewing and providing input on donor deliverables including workplans and progress reports;
- Assisting in new business development by identifying new project and product opportunities and contributing to concept notes and proposals;
- Coordinating with HQ procurement team on procurement, logistics and supply chain management;
- Advising and assisting field platforms on capacity building and strategic issues;
- Organizing and on-site support of performance improvement planning, marketing planning, and strategic planning as needed;
- Managing overall communications with overseas staff and facilitating donor communications;
- Conducting short term technical assistance trips; and
- Fulfilling other programmatic and administrative functions as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in a relevant subject (MBA, MPH, etc.) or equivalent experience
- At least two years work experience in a developing country
- Strong analytical/problem solving capabilities;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment;
- Excellent quantitative skills, with particular emphasis on working with budgets, workplans and spreadsheets,
- Proficiency in word processing and data analysis
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Portuguese language skills a plus
The successful candidate will also have excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and cross-cultural skills; demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize a variety of tasks on short notice within designated deadlines; and an interest in future overseas posting with PSI. Preference will be given to candidates with private sector experience in business management; knowledge of USAID and the international donor community; and an interest in private sector approaches to development.
