The Program Associate will report to the Senior Program Manager and will provide administrative and programmatic assistance necessary to support resiliency program implementation, focused on food security, nutrition and agricultural development, and governance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the administration of ongoing program activities and partner communication from headquarters.
  • Provides primary support on program reports and outreach material, particularly drafting reporting deliverables to donors.
  • Closely collaborates with field team, finance and administration, and program staff in conducting proactive financial backstopping and budget tracking.
  • Assists with the review of program work plans and performance monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Participates in recruitment of potential candidates for field positions and consultants.
  • Drafts scopes of work for consultants; prepares consulting agreements and reviews consultant reports.
  • Compiles, distributes and integrates program best practices, lessons learned, success stories and impacts in other programs and across the organization; liaises with Communications team for program outreach and business development purposes.
  • Drafts briefing material/program highlights/reports on governance, food security, nutrition and agricultural development for interested parties: funders, donors, academic circles, key decision makers and development professions.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships within and outside Counterpart.
  • Promotes programmatic and interpersonal problem solving.
  • Supports and develops team building in all work spheres.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in political science, international development, nutrition, agriculture or other related field, with a minimum of three years of previous work experience in international development programs or relevant experience, including short or long-term field experience and backstopping, preferably in Africa; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Previous work experience in governance, food security, nutrition and agricultural development programs preferred;
  • Strong internet and computer software skills, including MS Office Suite programs, and web-based research tools;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural and lingual settings;
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with attention to detail;
  • Ability to travel to provide short-term technical and administrative support as needed;
  • Strong inter-personal skills;
  • Fluency in English required, second language proficiency desired; preferably French.
