PSI seeks candidates for the position of Global Business Systems (MIS) Intern to support the Technology Integration (TI) team. TI was created by merging Information Technology (IT) with Global Business Systems (MIS). As a department, TI implements and maintains information systems by analyzing related business processes and required outputs, or business intelligence. The MIS unit analyzes business processes related to management information needs at a global and local level. In particular, the MIS unit is responsible for managing the implementation and administration of a new MIS software system, the DHIS2, throughout PSI.

The MIS Intern position requires flexibility and willingness to assume varied duties and projects. This internship position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to Nicola Hobby, Program Manager, Global Business Systems. This is a paid position. The ideal candidate will work 20-40 hours per week. This position is open for a 3 month contract with the possibility of extending based on performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will be a team player with proven critical thinking skills, keen attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong computer skills. It is essential that he/she be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks, while working with minimal supervision and following through on assignments. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in international health and development issues and information systems in particular.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support MIS team projects and activities
  • Support the successful launch of the DHIS2 by assisting with the development and dissemination of communications materials and/or data dashboard designs
  • Maintain a team calendar, including important events, dates and deadlines
  • Design pages and tools for the department’s intranet
  • Format power point presentations, excel spreadsheets and word documents
  • Other duties to support the team as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate student majoring in International Development, Management Information Systems, Public Health, or other related degree
  • Experience with database design or management preferred
  • Experience developing data visualizations preferred
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as HTML preferred
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and writing skills
  • High proficiency in computer applications: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat
  • Creativity, ability to brainstorm and problem-solve
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to the team
  • Quantitative analysis experience preferred
  • French, Spanish, or Portuguese a plus
