Business Development Director, Economic Growth Division
Reporting
This position is housed in the Economic Growth Group (EGG), reporting to the EGG Senior Director. The person in this position will lead coordination and ultimately management of business development activities for the Division. The person in this position regularly interacts with all EGD Practice Areas (Economic Recovery, Tertiary and vocational education, and Workforce Development) and staff members, Business Development, the Proposal Development Department, External Relations, the Communications teams and collaborates with Cross-Functional Group; Education for Development Division; Communities in Transition Division; and other Groups, Practice Areas, and teams.
Primary Responsibilities
The position requires a Business Development Director with significant experience working in a wide range of managing proposals, developing new business plans, and assisting to structure and manager country and regional business development initiatives. The Director will lead support two practice areas: Economic Governance, Economic Recovery and Workforce Development. This is a senior management position, reporting to the Senior Director. The EGD Business Development Director will:
- Oversee tracking of procurement opportunities and work with EGG leadership to organize the proposal preparation process including staffing early on in the process. Manage EGG preparatory efforts, in association with Technical Leads, for proposals including developing partnerships and clients. The Director will work with corporate and program staff on gathering pertinent documentation for proposal and knowledge management purposes.
- Analyze and organize the market, identify new business targets, and contribute to capture preparation--teaming, strategic recruitment, etc.
- Analyze the competitive field and assist with developing alliances and strategic partnerships.
- Drive the business development process for EGG—play a significant role in strategy development and sub-contractor identification and relations.
- Create sophisticated market strategies to position EGG as a leading contender for specific market opportunities.
- Participate in and/or lead the organization of periodic technical workshops.
- Promote Creative and EGG by attending external events, networking with clients and counterparts, articulating a solid understanding of EGG’s past and present portfolio, and effectively representing the company's history, values, and standards.
- Participate in divisional management, planning and strategic decision-making activities.
- Contribute to the creation of a technically rigorous and intellectually nurturing environment.
- Build networks and creatively engage the development community to enhance the public image and competitiveness of the division.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in international development or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in international development programming, preferable with experience with and economic growth program.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, USAID experience preferred; experience developing regional strategies is preferred.
- Experience in pursuing and managing large indefinite quantity and indefinitely delivery indefinite quantity contracts desired.
- Excellent written communications skills with experience both writing and managing proposals for large USAID projects.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
- Strong representational skills.
- Prior experience in marketing, capture management, and USAID proposal development.
