The selected candidate for this position will participate in and in some cases leads work involving data analysis on a wide variety of issues from designing and selecting samples to tabulating and analyzing results, documenting the results, and providing advice to agency investigative and audit teams regarding specific recommendations. With the aid of mathematical techniques, the statistician interprets data and communicates results to agency auditors and investigators. She/He will ensure that statistical concepts are explained in a way the team can understand. Using sophisticated software tools, the selected candidate will also provide assistance performing analysis of government databases and open source information, in support of the agency's mission to enhance economy, efficiency, and effectiveness as well as to search for anomalies, questionable connections, trends, and patterns that may be indicative of fraud, waste, or abuse in federal system or government programs and activities, to include delegated functions. The information collected may be used to prosecute cases, pursue civil or administrative judgments, or assist with identifying/developing audit findings. Effective skills in research, analysis, and oral and written communication are critical.
