Our partner was founded in 1994, with a vision to helping the indigenous population of Guatemala. Their work has spread throughout some extremely beautiful and rural area of central and northern Guatemala.
The main office is in Cobán, with smaller offices around the region. Their primary focus is to create a regional movement among the local indigenous community, empowering children and young people through leadership, health and educational programmes. Their projects include working with girls to reduce teenage pregnancy, teaching young people about leadership and how best to develop their community and socioeconomics, and giving children a platform to express their thoughts and rights. They also works in conjunction with other organisations to deliver programmes, including a current project to develop sexual health awareness throughout northern Guatemala, and offer support to those living with HIV and AIDS.
You will be the first AfID volunteer with the organization, and your role will be akin to undertaking a general assessment of their financial controls and processes, identifying any weaknesses, and recommending and implementing any changes which you deem necessary. The staff believe they have weaknesses in their accounting function, but are unsure where, or how to improve, so your help will be greatly appreciated. You will build the capacity and provide support in donor reporting. They work with some large, significant donors who require detailed reporting.
They would ideally like the volunteer to join them around Feb - Mar for 2 - 4 Weeks. Accommodation is available either cost free homestay or in affordable guesthouses. Fluent Spanish is required for this role.
