Head of New York Office
$102,461 per annum
New York, USA
Amnesty International, made up of millions of individual members and supporters, is a truly global human rights movement. It is made up of people who are passionate about defending human rights for all, and who believe the world would be a better place if together we took injustice personally.
And by mobilizing the humanity in everyone, shining a light on human rights abuses wherever they may occur and speaking truth to power, for over 50 years now we have been making a tangible difference in the lives of those who are denied their basic rights, every hour, every day.
About the Role
As Head of the New York Office you will deliver the inspirational leadership that drives the work of Amnesty International's New York office, while also effectively overseeing the work of International Advocacy Programme’s New York team. This will involve working closely with the Programme Director and the Deputy Programme Director to ensure the effective development and implementation of human rights advocacy strategies with specific reference to the UN. As our senior representative in New York you will lobby on our priorities at the UN, explaining and defending Amnesty International’s agreed human rights positions.
Crucially, you'll gather and analyse 'political intelligence’ and provide updates and advice to Amnesty's international offices on advocacy strategies, ensuring key information is shared with those who need to know.
About You
With proven experience of undertaking human rights advocacy at the UN, having worked closely with diplomats, state officials, senior policy makers and with other IGO bodies, you are well placed to identify and exploit advocacy opportunities within the UN, and to react to global or localised political, economic and social developments. You have a strong track record of senior leadership and management success, preferably in an international organization, and experience of effectively lobbying governments and intergovernmental agents for policy change.
You have sound knowledge of international human rights law, international relations and of international humanitarian law, and as an established leader and expert in the field of human rights advocacy; are able to represent Amnesty International at a senior level with government representatives and the media.
About Us
Our aim is simple: to bring the world closer to a place where human rights are enjoyed by all. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations, human rights education, or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
