Chemonics seeks a security manager based in Washington, D.C., to support our Afghanistan Regional Business Unit. The manager will help ensure the security of the region's dynamic portfolio and new business efforts. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership, diplomacy, and proactive problem-solving skills. Responsibilities include:
• Manage regional incidents and emergencies in collaboration with the Global Safety and Security Department (GSSD)
• Monitor, assess, and analyze regional security trends through open-source reporting and liaison with field security employees and continually share this knowledge with the regional senior vice president, project management staff, field-based project staff, and GSSD
• Update security management unit director and GSSD on potential safety/security-related risks or problems within the region
• Conduct basic and detailed assessments of project security performance and submit updated findings to GSSD for corporate security performance metrics
• Assist project management units and/or project teams and lead the recruitment, hiring, and monitoring of safety and security project staff, ensuring personnel selected meet appropriate requirements
• Assist field security team, as needed, ensuring field staff’s safety/security inquiries and needs are addressed promptly
• Ensure travelers are researching the risk environment through the information security provider before travel or conduct security briefings for designated high- or critical-risk countries
• Provide support to security subcontract procurement, management, and administration for new and ongoing projects and new business development needs
• Research and recommend operational security practices, collaborating with GSSD as appropriate, and assist with implementation of relevant changes

Qualifications:
• Minimum four years of administrative and/or technically relevant work experience in the field of security
• Demonstrated knowledge of technical security practices and safety and security policies and procedures
• Demonstrated ability in implementing security platforms for civilian operations in conflict zones, including successful crisis management
• Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage significant activities, budgets, and resources to produce and take responsibility for results
• Willingness to work in Afghanistan for up to four to eight weeks per year and consider long-term overseas assignments
• Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge
• Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
