In cooperation with the US Department of State's Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator, other US Government (USG) partners, international organizations, and nongovernmental organizations, USAID provides global technical leadership on the full range of issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; manages numerous research and field support programs; and monitors the impact of the Agency's HIV/AIDS programs. In this endeavor, USAID works very closely with a range of USG agencies involved in the fight against AIDS, such as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense, and Peace Corps. INTRODUCTION:

The Global Health Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Intern will be assigned to the Strategic Planning, Evaluation and Reporting (SPER) Division within the Bureau for Global Health’s (GH) Office of HIV/AIDS (OHA). OHA is the focus of technical leadership for USAID and has primary responsibility for leading the Agency’s efforts within PEPFAR. The Intern will support the planning and organization of the Global Measurement and Accountability Conference to be held in Washington, DC in March 2014. The conference is being co-convened by USAID, World Bank, and WHO, and will consist of technical meetings and meetings with policy makers and global health agency leaders. The purpose of the conference is to convene a group of global health professionals, M&E experts, and policy makers. This conference will be influential in building upon the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) success, and defining its strategic priorities for health-related measurement, accountability and results for the post-2015 development agenda. To this end, the Intern will primarily provide technical, administrative, and organizational support to the USAID team working on the conference. S/he will receive day to day guidance from the Senior M&E Advisor, who will serve as his/her onsite manager.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

  • Gaining a greater understanding of USAID projects working on cross cutting M&E and health information systems activities.
  • Gaining understanding of post MDG 2015 measurement policy, technical, and programmatic priorities.
  • Developing deep skills in collaboration, coordination and navigation to achieve results within a complex organizational structure.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

· Leading a landscaping exercise of GH M&E projects.

· Providing administrative support for the organization of the Measurement and Accountability Conference to be hosted in Washington, DC on March 10-12, 2014, including assisting with the preparation of conference documentation and materials.

· Assisting in scheduling meetings and coordinating partner submissions to the conference.

· Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned based on organizational and programming need and/or the Intern’s own interests.

QUALIFICATIONS :

· Currently enrolled senior in a bachelor’s degree program; or, completion of such a program within the past 24 months.

· Strong interest in global health and M&E.

· Ability to work in a fast paced environment with short turnaround times while maintaining high standards.

· Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.

· US Citizenship or US permanent residency required.

COMPENSATION:

$15.52 per hour (non-exempt, hourly wage position).
