Conectas Human Rights, an international, non-profit organization created in 2001, in Brazil, is currently looking for a new Executive Director.
Conectas seeks a senior professional with a global vision committed to human rights, with moral integrity, an innovative approach, who can effectively develop relationships with various stakeholders, funders and other organizations; and is persistent and determined to fight for the rights of vulnerable people.
About Conectas
Conectas’ mission is to promote human rights and the consolidation of the Rule of Law in the Global South - Africa, Asia and Latin America. Conectas was accorded consultative status with the ECOSOC-UN in 2006, and observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in 2009. Conectas is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil; the organization has a staff of 30 people, and, together with partner organizations, it has established representations in Brasilia and Geneva.
Conectas develops its activities through three programs (South-South Cooperation, Foreign Policy, and Justice) that interact and encompass national, regional and international activities. Since 2005 Conectas has? also been working ?to improve the accountability of businesses for human rights ?violations, focusing on the role of the public and private financial sectors. The individual projects of each program aim to strengthen human rights defenders and academics in the Global South and to foster interaction between them, through collaborative networks. In Brazil, Conectas promotes advocacy, strategic and public interest litigation.
We are looking for an individual who shares Conectas´ core values which are:

Responsibilities
- Promote the vision, mission and strategic objectives of the organization, bringing innovation to its next cycle;
- Provide leadership for the development of the strategic and operational plans and oversee their implementation;
- Guarantee Conectas’ sustainability through fundraising and maintaining strong relationships with funders;
- Assume overall responsibility for the financial health of the organization and ensure that appropriate financial and auditing systems are in place;
- Inspire, manage and motivate a highly qualified and committed team;
- Represent Conectas and act as a spokesperson to national and international media;
- Maintain and foster partnerships with organizations in the field of human rights nationally, regionally and internationally;
- Ensure engagement of the Board on all strategic matters by providing appropriate, adequate, and timely information on the condition of the organization;
- Oversee all legal and regulatory matters and ensure that organizational risks are identified, understood and monitored and that there are systems in place to mitigate them
- Identify opportunities for the organization to engage strategically as an influential, credible and respectful player with a variety of actors, including opinion and policy makers, private sector representatives and other stakeholders;
- Demonstrate commitment and conviction, inspiring staff, partners and others to act in favor of human rights;
Essential Skills
- Deep understanding of the global human rights agenda and its implications for the Global South;
- Ability to think creatively and implement innovative solutions to current human rights challenges, both nationally and internationally;
- Capacity to develop and strengthen relationships with various stakeholders and organizations;
- Exceptional analytical skills of global, regional and country level political landscape and capacity to take timely decisions;
- Ability to manage a senior and dedicated team;
- Highest sense of ethics and integrity;
- Excellent communication skills in, at least, Portuguese and English.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in contributing to global human rights debate with original ideas;
- Experience living and working in different cultural contexts;
- Successful track record in advocacy;
- Knowledge of non-profit governance structures;
- Management experience in NGOs, private or public organizations;
- Extensive experience managing a diverse team;
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic, operational and financial planning.
- Post-graduate degree in Law, Social Science, International Relations or any related field.
