Papua New Guinea is a country of eight million people, many of whom live in very remote areas that are difficult to access. The country is mountainous with limited infrastructure and many locations only accessible through a combination of boat air and trekking.

In this environment Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) distributes approximately one million Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) per year at household level throughout the country.

The Logistics Manager will take the distribution plan as developed by the Programme Manager and ensure that the logistics infrastructure is in place to ensure that consignments of LLINS are available to project teams at the correct time for distribution. This objective requires a detailed knowledge of formal and informal logistics infrastructure and the ability to adapt the project plan so that it fits this.

In addition, the Logistics Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the Project Teams, maintaining close contact with the Project Supervisors in order to monitor the performance of each team and traveling to remote locations to visit the teams and resolve performance issues as soon as possible. This will require excellent leadership and people-management skills as well as an ability to liaise with local stakeholders and suppliers. As with all management positions the Logistics Manager will be required to maintain a detailed reporting system to appraise the Programme Manager and the RAM Board of developments and the status of the project at all times.

The salary and remuneration package includes the following:

  1. Basic gross salary of US$77,000.00
  2. Accommodation allowance.
  3. Health Insurance for term of contract.
  4. 4 Weeks annual leave with some travel and repatriation expenses.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and maintain a reporting system
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Must be able to manage a group of 15 to 25 persons
  • 5 Years experience in a supervisory position within a logistics or related organisation
  • Management or supervisory experience within an organisation providing relief supplies would be a definite advantage
  • Project experience may be advantageous
  • Proven experience of stock control across multiple locations
