About the role

The Health Manager’s technical leadership will define strategic direction and ensure high quality health and nutrition programming in domestic and internationally funded programs.

Through strong technical leadership the postholder will:

· Manage a vibrant health technical unit, which is viewed as a turn-to unit for technical expertise within SC Australia, the wider SC family and the sector within Australia and the Asia Pacific region

· Develop and implement a health and nutrition thematic strategy encompassing Save the Children’s theory of change and programming approach, influencing Save the Children International global strategy

· Improve the technical quality of Save the Children Australia’s health and nutrition portfolio through ensuring enhanced technical assistance to country programs, and through strengthening the capacity of staff to implement them

· Represent and intensify the voice of Save the Children Australia on health and nutrition issues internally and externally

About You

· Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, determine priorities, take initiative, and work independently and in multi-cultural settings.

· Strong interpersonal, oral and especially written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.

· Demonstrated leadership skills across a range of diverse stakeholders in a complex environment.

· Proven expertise in Health and Nutrition international development work.

· Experience in program design and proposal development for private foundations, bi- and/or multilaterals, and/or Government.

· Experience in representation with international bodies, government, and donors.

· Experience designing and leading trainings and capacity building exercises for diverse target audiences.

· Demonstrated senior leadership and team management experience.

· Demonstrated experience in monitoring project implementation, technically and financially.

· Sound understanding and experience of the child rights approach to development.

· Experience of Emergency Health and Nutrition programming desirable.

· Degree in medicine or nursing desirable, with substantial experience in Health and Nutrition development-related work in international settings.
