Chemonics seeks a supervisory information specialist for the USAID-funded Humanitarian Assistance Support Program in Washington, D.C., under USAID's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA). The project will provide operational and administrative support in coordinating international disaster response and humanitarian assistance, emergency and developmental food aid, conflict mitigation programs, transition activities, and other initiatives for USAID/DCHA and its nine offices. The supervisory information specialist will manage and oversee the Information Support Unit (ISU). This full-time position is based in Washington, D.C. and may also require ad hoc travel to disaster zones. A secret-level security clearance is required. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide diverse informational support services to DCHA, including research and production of information products fact sheets describing country situation and situational reports that contain comprehensive information on complex emergencies, the numbers of people affected, general situation and political/military situations, relief efforts, sector needs, and assistance provided by the U.S. government
  • Collect, synthesize, and analyze information pertaining to humanitarian emergencies and response efforts, and draw upon that information to draft, edit, format, and disseminate a wide range of internal and external information products in Washington, D.C., and overseas
  • Serve as the ISU manager and attend meetings in Washington, D.C., and in disaster zones
  • Collaborate closely with information counterparts from other U.S. government agencies, the United Nations, and nongovernmental organizations to ensure that all relevant humanitarian information is obtained and communicated to relevant staff
  • Manage the ISU Unit, including more than 20 staff
  • Liaise with the Geographic Information Unit on the development, scheduling, and production of maps or other geographic visual aids

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in political science, international relations, international development, area studies, humanitarian assistance, and journalism required
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant information management experience, including writing/editing experience with the U.S. government and/or international donor programs
  • Minimum two years of demonstrated experience in humanitarian assistance, specifically field experience in an international disaster response context
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Ability to obtain a secret-level security clearance
  • English fluency required; fluency in one or more foreign languages preferred
