Immediate need for an individual to support the International Disaster Response process of Samaritan's Purse (SP). T****he International Disaster Response Unit (IDRU) Technical Advisor serves the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART)/Incident Management Team (IMT) system by:

  • Develop disaster response capacity through preparedness tools and simulations.
  • Serve as on-call Response Manager on the IMT for at least 3 months each year.
  • Draft disaster response manuals outlining best practices and establish SP protocols and standards for common disaster and sector specific responses such as shelter, NFI distributions, etc.
  • Investigate, develop new opportunities for partnership, and liaise with desirable disaster response organizations such as OFDA, FEMA, military branches, UN agencies, and other agencies for the Disaster Simulation and additional disaster response tools.
  • Liaise with all departments within SP to ensure that all stake holders are aware of how to participate in the Disaster Simulation.
  • Support SP IHQ departments such as Communications, Donor Ministries, and Projects - Program Development Division as it relates to their roles in identifying potential funding for disaster preparedness programs.
  • Develop DART tools such as standard disaster relief grant proposals by sector and provide proposal support for disaster responses as needed.
  • Provide surge capacity for IMT or DART deployments; assume additional responsibilities of the Manager of the IDRU during absence due to travel, disaster response, etc.
  • Manage special projects as requested including leading presentations and writing papers to submit for publication on best practices and lessons learned in disaster responses.
  • Assist team in developing tools to identify and build strategic local partners.
  • Assess a combined approach of national and international disaster response.
  • Develop individual disaster response capacity by designing a leadership development program for DART/IMT members.
  • Follow policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy and Procedure Manual

The successful applicant will have previous experience with:

  1. international disaster relief and/or humanitarian aid,
  2. demonstrated proficiency in disaster response standards for interventions.
  3. writing grants/proposals/reports, manuals
  4. monitoring and evaluation,
  5. donor/partner organizations such as USAID (OFDA, FFP), UN agencies,
  6. on-line learning tools/hand-held learning,
  7. strong diplomacy, organization, and management skills.

The position is located at the Samaritan's Purse international headquarters in Boone, NC, with some international travel as needed.
