The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an inter-governmental organization known for its dynamic work in the field of migration. The Organization has a global presence with over 450 offices worldwide, including five offices in the north Pacific region, covering every state in the Federated States of Micronesia and also in Majuro, in the Republic of the Marshall Islands and is currently exploring options for the establishment of a presence in the Republic of Palau.
IOM continues to support disaster risk reduction, disaster mitigation, climate change adaptation, and relief and reconstruction initiatives in the north Pacific region, with the overall objective to respond to and address the critical needs that arise from natural hazards and climate change.
General Functions:
The Migration Profile of the FSM project aims to build on the results of the Survey of FSM Migrants, identifying gaps in data and developing a Migration Profile for the country that can be used as a tool to enhance the governments’ capacity to promote a comprehensive and coherent policy approach to migration in the FSM; to develop specific indicators and a training tool-kit for developing national strategies on migration, including reinforcing migration analysis in the FSM Strategic Development plan.
Toward this goal, IOM will implement this project though the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in a co-partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Division of Immigration and Labour Office and SBOC.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and in close collaboration with the MRC Coordinator, the consultant will be responsible for the development of the FSM Migration Profile that will cover a range of statistics and data related to national migration policy, labour migration, tourism, student migration, irregular migration, brain drain, and remittances
Qualifications:
a) Advanced degree in migration studies, demography or development economics; with training in research methods b) minimum six (6) years’ experience in statistical research on international migration c) knowledge of statistical methods and migration data of the national and international level d) experience with data assessments in the North Pacific strongly desired e) familiarity with the main governmental stakeholders in the field of migration management would be advantageous f) knowledge of the Migration Profile concept strongly desired
Remuneration commensurate with qualification and experience
