Communication and Research Specialist

Location: Washington DC, USA

OBJECTIVE:

The short-term consultant will produce a number of research and communications products based upon analysis and contextualization of an existing body of research reports and data gathered from Internews’ projects worldwide over a number of years to produce a range of written materials.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the overall guidance of Internews’ Program Development Unit based in Washington, DC, the short-term consultant will utilize relevant information available to prepare a range of written communications and reports exhibiting Internews’ work. To inform and support the development and design of current and future Internews activities, the consultant will analyze and synthesize existing data, reports and other materials to provide thematic and longitudinal observations of practice, learning and impact.

To inform this analysis desk-based research, particularly in the field of media and communications theory, will be needed to complement, contextualize and provide a balance of theory and practice. The final deliverables will be varied incorporating an array of writing styles and formats. Essentially all will be highly engaging and appropriate depending upon different target audiences, including highly engaging tools such as info graphics and data visualizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A highly creative and analytical thinker, writer and communicator with a minimum of five (5) years of high-level research, analysis and writing experience;

• Knowledge and understanding of the media and international development sector;

• Prior experience working with media development organizations, non-profits, the US Agency for International Development and/or other USG agencies;

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, International Development, International Relations, English, or related field is preferred;

• Experience with statistical analysis tools, such as SPSS or STATA;

• Proven experience with info-graphics, data visualization and graphic design desktop applications;
• Strong analytical, research and writing skills;

• Track record of English language publications strongly desired

• Ability to identify client’s needs and appropriate solutions;

• Ability to meet tight deadlines and quickly comprehend and repurpose large amounts of data and information;

• High attention to detail;

• Fluent English language skills required;

• Immediate availability and geographical proximity to the place of assignment (Washington, DC) are further assets.

• Projected Start Date: October 1, 2013

• Project Completion: December 31, 2013
