ACDI/VOCA has approximately 70 projects in 35 countries and total revenues of approximately $174 million.

We are seeking a D.C.-based Associate Director, Social & Behavior Change to provide technical leadership and support to programs and proposals for social and behavior change (SBC), especially related to gender, value chains/market systems, and nutrition. This position will also provide guidance to other technical areas – such as agriculture and finance – on how to apply behavior change principles into their sectors.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership and guidance for projects in how to design and implement social behavior change activities, particularly related to gender, market systems, and nutrition-integrated agriculture. Support other technical teams on incorporating behavior change theory and practice into their technical approaches.
• Lead and train project teams in how to conduct barrier analyses as a method for identifying behavior change-related activities for projects. Advise projects and M&E teams in how to put in place effective monitoring and evaluation indicators and processes for SBC.
• Serve as the gender advisor for assigned projects, mainly in Francophone Africa, advising and supporting project gender specialists on gender integration. This includes conducting gender analyses/assessments and gender trainings for staff and partners; supporting projects in implementing ACDI/VOCA’s gender policy and their own project gender strategies, and providing ongoing mentoring support and technical guidance in gender integration.
• Work with country level and HQ staff to develop technical work plans and review technical reports/materials.
• Develop technical and programmatic scopes of work for consultants visiting field offices on SBC and gender related topics.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance for the organization on how to apply behavior change theories and practices
• Moderate and/or actively participate in technically-focused Communities of Practice on ASPIREglobal.
• Organize, facilitate and/or participate in working groups with participants from TLA and Project Management, around relevant technical topics.
• Participate in and present at international, domestic and local meetings, workshops and conferences.
• Act as technical writer and/or reviewer on SBC and gender-related components of proposals and/or oversee SBC consultants. May also act as technical writer and/or reviewer on social and behavior change, gender, nutrition, and other technical proposals as appropriate.
• Meet with other organizations/donors on possible new funding activities and/or partnerships related to SBC, gender and other relevant technical topics.

A master’s degree in international development, behavioral economics, sociology, or other related field, with a minimum of five years’ work experience (including overseas work) in international development or related field required. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of experience with social and behavior change theory and techniques, including conducting barrier analyses. Candidates must also have demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in gender and development, particularly related to food security, value chains/market systems and nutrition-integrated agriculture. Excellent writing skills for proposals, reports, and papers are required. Fluency in English is required. Strong French language skills preferred.
