The Australian Government Attorney-General's Department is responsible for managing the law and justice component of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Strongim Gavman Program (SGP). Under the Program, senior Australian Government officials are placed in PNG Government agencies to provide capacity development, public service policy and strategic advice to promote law reform, assist state legal services and strengthen PNG's prosecution capacity.

The Governments of PNG and Australia are seeking applications from experienced prosecutors to fill a Senior Prosecutions Advisor position in the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP), with specialist expertise in the prosecution of family and sexual violence.

The successful applicant will be tasked with further developing the Family and Sexual Violence Unit and promoting the more effective prosecution of family and sexual violence offences across OPP.

The position will require relocation to Port Moresby. This is a vacancy for a non-ongoing position for deployment to PNG for 2 years with the possibility of one year extension, with a projected start date in February 2015.

Applicants must be eligible to meet the visa requirements set by the PNG Government for SGP Deployees. Applicants may be required to undertake psychological testing.

The remuneration package attracts tax-free status and includes housing, a vehicle, and a range of other allowances commensurate with the living and working conditions in Port Moresby.
