Country: Australia, Viet Nam
Closing date: 26 Dec 2014
Our partner was founded by a father and daughter after a visit to Vietnam in 2002. They are a child-focussed organisation working with families living below the poverty line. Their programmes enable children to go to school, and support families to help meet their basic needs such that the children remain in school. In 2011, they opened a girls’ foster home to provide refuge to girls living in abusive or potentially abusive homes.
You will be the third volunteer on placement. Our partner has moved to a very basic system using MSExcel. They requested the support of a volunteer to help them move to Quickbooks. AfID’s first volunteer supported them for two months in 2013 and spent the bulk of her time setting up Quickbooks, entering data for 2012 & 2013, and training two Programmes Managers on data entry. She did not have time to test their controls, or assist them with their budgeting. The next volunteer supported them for four weeks in 2014. She reviewed their use of Quickbooks, undertook an assessment of their accounting processes and internal controls, developed a simple budgeting and cash forecasting template, and further mentored staff.
As the third AfID volunteer, your role will firstly be to see whether the accounting records are up-to-date, and undertake an assessment on their accounting processes and internal controls, ensuring that these are still appropriate, understood and being adhered to. Additionally, they would benefit from additional training around budget creation and monitoring, and reporting to donors. Separately, they have asked for support from an IT-savvy volunteer; their office systems have not been updated and are not well-monitored. They would benefit from an assessment of their needs, and a clean-up, including ensuring they have suitable anti-virus protection.
Our partner would ideally like a volunteer from February onwards for 4-8 Weeks.
