Job Description:
Engility Corporation, building on IRG’s legacy in international development, seeks an experienced Agriculture and Food Security (AFS) Senior Associate, who will be based at our home office in Alexandria, VA will join the Agriculture, Climate and Natural Resources (ACNR) group, within Engility’s International Development Services Group (IDSG).
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will join the Agriculture Enterprise and Food Security Practice Area within the ACNR Business Area and contribute to the organization’s related business development and technical interventions. The AFS Senior Associate provides technical services and home office project management support to on-going relevant contracts, leads efforts to capture new business in existing and adjacent markets, and engages in thought leadership activities. This position reports to the Practice Manager for Agriculture and Food Security and works in close collaboration with other ACNR members, project partners, clients, and other Business Areas. Regular travel is required, occasionally with short notice and for extended periods.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Business Development (40%):
- Contribute to strategy development to expand IDSG’s business in the areas of agriculture, trade, food security, and rural livelihoods;
- Work with the Business Development team to drive the capture of new business opportunities;
- Lead and support proposal efforts, including serving as Capture Manager, drafting sections, editing, and reviewing proposals;
- Represent Engility at meetings, conferences, and in communications with current and prospective new clients;
- Draft and edit content for relevant communications and marketing;
- Develop strong working relationships with clients and potential clients;
- Ensure that information about our opportunity pipeline is accurate and up-to-date;
- Participate in/lead capture trips to gather information about upcoming opportunities.
Technical Assistance (35%):
- Participate in short-term assignments as required on projects, both domestically and overseas;
- Interact with clients on technical issues associated with projects;
- Lead and support value chain analysis;
- Propose necessary activity and deliverable changes and innovations.
Project Management (25%):
- Provide and coordinate home office assistance to field projects;
- Support Project key personnel in completion of overall contract objectives and activities;
- Track and monitor project budget and LOE expenditures;
- Ensure quality control of project deliverables;
- Identify/anticipate long-range activities and problems/constraints of the project, key personnel, and the client;
- Participate in the design and recommendation of policies and approaches for implementing project and corporate work.
Team Mentoring and Growth:
- Contribute to mentoring and developing junior staff members;
- Assist with selecting and interviewing staff to be added to the home office team and for projects and proposals;
- Participate in Division meetings.
MINIMUM TANGIBLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Master’s degree in an agriculture economics, agronomy, finance or related area;
- At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible work experience in international development and/or agriculture required;
- 2+ years of international/overseas experience;
- Proven experience managing USAID contracts from headquarters or in the field;
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to technical issues and programs;
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders in a variety of settings to identify market systems constraints and develop strategies to build agriculture sector competiveness through value chain analysis or other methodologies;
- Expertise in the application of the value chain approach and market systems facilitation;
- Excellent writing and editing skills and strong attention to detail;
- Fluency in English and French required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- GIS usage
- Experience using business developing tracking software such as GovWin.
