Position Summary
IREX seeks a data analytics and information lead to support data analytics and research on large structured and unstructured datasets related to documentation efforts for the Syrian Justice & Accountability Centre (SJAC). The lead will use his/her expertise to analyze data on human rights issues in Syria, support the Documentation team's efforts, and produce reports on the results of the data analysis.
This role involves using Statistical methods, algorithms and advanced techniques to conduct research into SJAC data. It requires knowledge of Arabic to support processing of large volumes of documents.
This is a part-time role.
Duties & Responsibilities
Information Management
· At a high-level, advise the SJAC team on data research strategy
· Develop the center’s Information Policies in support of documentation efforts.
· Implement and coordinate Information projects with other teams.
· Identify problematic areas and gaps in datasets and develop solutions to correct issues
Data Projects Management
· Liaise with database developer to ensure that necessary database issues are addressed in a timely manner
· Perform data processing, cleaning, and analysis using various tools and co-ordinate the same with database team.
· Coordinate with the technology team to develop required data tools and data products.
Data Analysis, Research and Reporting
· Apply advanced algorithms and quantitative techniques on the datasets for analysis purposes to support the human-based analysis and processing of the data.
· Develop relevant graphs, reports, maps, and presentations of project results as needed
· Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
· Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports
· Generate routine and ad hoc reports
· Any other tasks assigned by the SJAC or IREX staff
- Ability to use, if and where needed, Arabic language tool sets, libraries, or NL (Natural Language) techniques to analyze, de-duplicate, and prepare data.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field. Significant work experience with complex data sets may be acceptable in lieu of formal degree in these areas
· Previous data analysis experience.
· Good knowledge of programing and scripting languages like Python, Bash and Java.
· Good knowledge of working with different data types such as JSON, XML, Tab delimited etc.
· Strong knowledge of SQL.
· Strong knowledge of ETL techniques and tools.
· Knowledgeable in statistics and statistical analysis.
· Knowledge of Analysis and visualization tools such as R and Gephi is a plus.
· Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as statistical software
· Experience in data mining and data collection techniques and procedures
· Strong work ethic, commitment to accuracy, and ability to handle confidential information
· Ability to function professionally and effectively in verbal and written English and Arabic
