Plan's vision is that of a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignity. We work in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children, particularly those who are excluded or marginalized, out of poverty with high quality programs that deliver long lasting benefits.

Operating in Nicaragua since 1994, Plan is one of the largest and most respected child centered international NGOs in the country. A Country Strategic Plan is in place from 2012-2015, with an annual budget of US $6 million, with plans for substantial growth.

Plan Nicaragua works in approximately 300 communities covering 29 municipalities in 6 departments of the country and has a total caseload of 30,100 children. Since 2012, Plan has increased its outreach to the more excluded communities of the Autonomous Region of the North Atlantic. Nicaragua is still considered one of the poorest countries in Central America and the Caribbean with 60% of the 5.6 million population living below the poverty line. Almost half of the population is under 18 years old and children are frequently victims of violence and exploitation both at home and in the community. Moreover, many children and their families in rural areas suffer from extreme poverty and its consequences, including chronic malnutrition and lack of access to basic services.
