Position Summary

Freedom House seeks a Web Editor/Social Media Editor who will focus on web and social media strategy for Freedom House platforms. The Web Editor/Social Media Editor will help create and maximize the impact of our online strategies and content across a variety of platforms. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Director of Communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of experience in communications/journalism or social media posts, with undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university
  • Strong editorial and writing skills; ability to write strong, clickable headlines
  • Good time management skills, ability to work to tight deadlines and to manage multiple projects
  • Web management and design experience
  • Knowledge of SEO and mobile best practices
  • Familiarity with Drupal and knowledge of basic HTML
  • Appreciation for design and aptitude for user experience
  • Exceptional attention to editorial detail
  • Experience managing media databases preferred
  • Interest in human rights issues strongly preferred
  • Strong sense of discretion and ability to handle confidential issues

Some Duties and Responsibilities

  • Timely creation, editing and posting of content for freedomhouse.org and social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
  • Curating web content to produce compelling, cohesive, thematic landing pages
  • Make connections with influential Twitter outlets as part of efforts to development outreach efforts
  • Assist in creation of multimedia content
  • Organize and manage social media outreach during Freedom House events
